Prayer for the Week of Nov 25 – Give Thanks

November 25, 2013

Three days until Thanksgiving!

Are you in a panic because the dirty laundry has taken over?

Give thanks.

Is the house dusty and the floors sticky?

Give thanks.  Sharing thankfulness and hospitality doesn’t require a perfectly clean home.  Give yourself permission to experience love and laughter without perfection.

Have the bills been overwhelming making dinner on this coming Thursday less than you imagined?

Give thanks.  It’s not about the food, it is about hearts overflowing with gratitude even for the small and meager.  It may not be what you imagined but God promises to provide.  “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”  (Philippians 4:19)

I can guarantee this week will not go perfectly, nothing this side of Heaven is ever perfect.  God does not ask us for perfection but accepts us in our brokenness and lack.  He declares, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  (2 Corinthians 12:9a)  So I ask you to come along with me (because I too, am a recovering perfectionist) on a journey of letting go of the little things and live in thankfulness for the most important.

“O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.”  (Psalm 95:1-6)

Last week I told Daja she was reading my mail with her “recovering people pleaser” post. Today I ask you, Kristina, have you been in my home this weekend?! Saturday I saw the dust and this morning I saw the need to vacuum. But the countdown to Thursday has started and my children are off from school. I’d rather enjoy our togetherness. Yes, they can help with the housekeeping…but not today 🙂 I, too, am a recovering perfectionist. I thank Jesus for His gift of salvation. I do not even want to imagine what kind of people-pleasing perfectionist I might have become…miserable tyrant comes to mind ;/ God bless The Provision Room and Happy Thanksgiving!
