September Goals

School days, school days,

        Dear old golden rule days…

As most everyone buckles down for the inevitable back to school days, it’s time to plan out our September Goals.  It seems like we just started summer and yet here we are, the children bent over books with pencils in hand, the evenings changing from balmy to crisp, and the summer garden waning.  It’s time to think of autumn and how we can best plan for this new season and be prepared for any of “life’s little happenings.”

1.  Continue doubling meals twice a week for the freezer.  Just jump in right where you are and start doubling those meals!  Of all the things we do to be prepared for “life’s little happenings” this is one of the easiest!  Doubling meals just twice each week will fill your stores and not break your bank.  (Click here to read more about what makes this such a budget friendly way to be prepared.)

Start planning and planting the fall/winter garden.  Thankfully, here in Southern California it’s easy to grow food year round.  September is the right month to order and start planting beets, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, garlic, kale, lettuce, green onions, potatoes, radish, and spinach.  Having food right out of your own yard is such a blessing.  Let’s remember what God tells us in His word.

“Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.  (Hebrews 6:7)
