Prayer for the Week July 15 – The Faith of a Child

July 15, 2013

Today’s prayer post is written by my (Kristina’s) daughter, Anna.  I am so proud of her and her willingness to share with you something she learned first hand recently.  It has been a difficult season for this beautiful daughter of mine, but one that has taught her to hold on to the Lord and to trust Him.  May you be blessed this morning as you read her guest post.

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.  (Mark 10:13-16)

God said to have the faith of a child. In that case we must eliminate some things from our lives such as stress. We should not need to worry about getting plunged into the depths of concerns when our Heavenly Father is right there ready to give us a helping hand. We need to have trust and know that our true Comforter is near, like this child has confidence in her dad to protect and comfort her. Why are we not all like this child wanting to be wrapped in our Father’s love?

I cry out to you O Lord:
I say you are my refuge
My portion in the land of the living
(Psalm 142:5)

In this Psalm by David he is crying out to God asking him to be his rock and his fortress like that child found in her dad. We see that she has nothing to fear because of her trust.

How do we take stress away from our lives?  How does stress get there in the first place?  Stress is something that can enter our lives and we don’t even know that it is there. We are letting stress in more than we know because we do not know that we are letting it in. We let stress in and then let it take over.  I know what this is like!

I’ve been swimming for over three years.  I love it!!  But recent changes in my team like changing practice groups and losing my favorite coach caused me to be very stressed.  At first I thought the stress would go away, but there were so many changes and new philosophies about how we should be swimming only for times that it caused me to have so much stress!  I had to make a decision.  I talked to my mom and the Lord about what I should do.  It was the hardest decision I have ever made!!  In the end I decided the Lord was leading me to take a break from swimming.

Stress is sometimes really hard to prevent but we can do it if we just rely a little bit more on God.  Lean on Him a little bit more and let Him reveal the stress in our lives to us. Then let Him help you to get rid of it.

Dear Father,

Thank you for giving us the tools to conquer the little situations and the large problems without getting burdened down and stuck in the soft sand of stress. Thank you for your loving arms that wrap around us when we are scared.  Father we pray that you guide us and show us that we can put our burdens at your feet and be free.  Let us be like Christian in The Pilgrims Progress.  Let us come to the foot of the Cross and feel the straps of our burdens loosening until they fall off.   We pray for your guidance.

Take a moment today look around and see if you have stress in your life, really look, don’t skip over an area. And embrace your Father because you are His child.

I love the picture of the father and daughter and will try to remember not only the verse but that picture of sitting with our Father! Thank you so much for sharing this great reminder with us!
