Prayer For Week of April 29 — There is nothing better than to enjoy

April 29, 2013

“So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God.”  Ecc. 2:24

I know how it is.  Life is so….daily.  That aptly describes it, I think.  It’s day-in and day-out.

There are a few things that I can definitely count on every single day.  There will be seven children and a husband to feed.  There will be dishes.  There will be laundry.  At least Monday through Friday there will be academic lessons to teach.  The spiritual lessons don’t take any days off.

Miss Mongolia-Mom

The great challenge of life is to enjoy the dailiness. To enjoy one’s labor–to enjoy mothering itself–is a great blessing.  From the hand of God.

Imagine that.  The grace to enjoy the sandwich making and math paper correcting comes from the hand of God.  The grace to see the eternity in a pot of soup and in wiping down the counters is something that must come from the Lord.  That grace is also yours for the asking.

“He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” Psalm 84:11

If you can’t see the forest for the trees–the baby is teething, the plumber is late, a gopher dug up your garden, and the phone is ringing off the hook–TAKE A MOMENT!

Give yourself a time out.

Stop and see your children.  Really see them.

Breathe.  Breathe deeply.

Switch off the phone.

Give thanks.  For everything.  In everything.

Turn on some soft music.

Sing.

Enjoy the works of your hands, for God has blessed what you put your hands to.  He has promised grace and glory.  And He is always true to His word.

Dear Father, give me your eyes.  Let me see my home, my husband, and my children through Your eyes.  Give me the grace to find joy in all the details.  And the grace to handle all the details for Your glory.  Amen.

How true! Are you reading my mail? Our kids are learning James 5:5. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. There is much opportunity for humility when mothering 😉 But aren’t we grateful God chose this plan for us?
