Prayer for Week of November 26 – It’s Gonna Be OK

So, it’s Monday.  And we always start Monday with prayer.  It’s a good thing, too, because I gotta tell you, I need it.  Like a big dose of it.  Like, a SuperSized Holy Spirit indwelling.

I know that I have to write a prayer post because I’ve committed to doing so.  But, ya want to know a secret?  I got nothin’ today.  I feel like a used up dish rag this morning.  Ever feel that way?

The Super Mom has lost her cape.  And perhaps her mind.

I know I’m not the only one who has days like this.  We just get tired sometimes.  Physically, a few nights of bad sleep or a few days of strenuous work and we can feel downright puny.  Mentally, the aerobics we do to keep up with the calendar and holidays and everyone else’s drama can just wear us out to the point that it’s difficult to put two sensible words together.  And then a child walks in with his homework and asks us to explain something, like say, the Israeli Palestinian Conflict and we think, “Wow.  I am not up for this today.”  Spiritually, if we’ve been bearing another’s burdens for a while or the Lord has called us to some heavy intercession, we can very quickly feel drained.

What’s even worse is when you have a day like this on the same day that your husband has a day like this.  Sweet Jesus, be near me.

Would be nice if we could schedule days like this so as not to interfere with one’s life.  I’m happy to suffer for You, Lord, but it would be much more convenient if it could be next Thursday instead of today.

(Print available here.)

Today.  Oh today!  Today is where I am meant to be.  In this moment, I need to learn to receive His grace.  My tiredness is but a portal for heaven’s mercy.

Today.  Yes, today!  Today is a day for listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit.  For listening more and speaking less.  For every sigh becoming an intercession.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.

We do not know what we ought to pray for,

but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

Romans 8:26

So clear a little space for quiet.  Make a little room for breathing.  Sit alone if need be…and just be.  God will take the jumble of emotions and thoughts that are not quite connected and yet are completely entangled and sort them out into something like a tapestry of prayer.  The Spirit will do it.  You needn’t try so hard.  Just. Breathe.

Today is a day for offering ourselves.

“Would you like to offer yourself as a victim to the merciful love of God?” St. Therese of Lisieux

As the saying goes, “The same spirit says the same thing!”
