November Goals

November 6, 2012

Our Number 1 Goal for November is, Vote!!

Today is the day!  If you are reading this and haven’t voted yet, STOP!  Go vote and then come back and read this post knowing that you just participated in one of the great privileges of living in the United States of America.

After you have voted, why not invite some friends or family over for an easy potluck meal and watch the election results together in community.  Reaching across party divides and issues will go far in healing our land from all the hatefulness that has been thrown about in the last few months.  So whether you agree with the results or not, you can still Vote with Your Fork!

Baby Steps:

1.  Keep doubling meals twice per week.  This truly is one of the easiest ways to grow your food stores without growing your food budget!

2.  Plan your Thanksgiving meal now.  Don’t wait until the last minute and be out shopping the day before Thanksgiving!  It’s crazy out there and the stores will be out of everything you need!  We’re going to help you out over the next week by posting some of our favorite dishes along with our time and money saving tips.

3.  Prepare some of the Thanksgiving dishes in advance.  Many of the traditional dishes can be made up to a week in advance so why wait until the last minute?  A bit of extra time and effort before the holiday will have you sipping a glass of wine and enjoying your guests instead of slaving away in the kitchen.

Big Girl Step:

Let’s go through an easy Autumn checklist for the home and garden.  The best part about most of these is that we can delegate them to our husbands!!
1. Winterize outside faucets and put away hoses (for cold states.)
2. Clean out gutters and check that outside drains are clear.
3. Check dryer vent and vacuum excess lint out of dryer.
4. Plant garlic and potatoes in temperate climates like California.
5. Replace furnace filters.

We’d love to hear from you!  Let us know what is on your Thanksgiving menu and send us your favorite recipe at  If we like it, we just might share it on The Provision Room!
