Prayer for the Week Nov 5 – Setting Aside Time Today

November 5, 2012

Today we stand, and watch.  We wait, and we listen.  I feel like the child who stands in an open field with her finger in the air.  Which way does the wind blow?

Our nation stands on the brink of good and evil.  We are a nation polarized against each other on the issues of life, liberty, and justice for all.  I wait with baited breath for the outcome.  I believe God is for us.  I believe He hears the cry of all His people.  He knows best and wants only the best for us.  He is a good God.  It is time to pray!  Let’s spend time on our knees today asking for God’s Kingdom to come, His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Father in Heaven,

As the election approaches, let us not lean on our own understanding, but let us seek your wisdom.  Help us to better understand the issues at all levels of city, state, and national government.  Help us to respond as the Gospel compels us to as faithful citizens of community.

Give us ears that hear the cries of unborn children and those abandoned, men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender.

We ask for discernment that we might vote for leaders who hear your Word, who love you, and keep in the ways of your truth as they follow in the steps of your Son, Jesus.

We pray for your justice and peace in our land.

We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
