October Goals

October 3, 2012

Didn’t we just post September goals like….yesterday????  It sure feels that way!  Although the weather here in Southern California does not feel a bit Autumn-like.  It’s almost discouraging.  But, we know that cooler days are coming!

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. –George Eliot

So, here’s our goals for October!

Baby Steps:

1. As always, keep doubling those meals.  Just twice a week will give you 2 months worth of dinners in a year.  And your food budget won’t freak out!  If you’ve been tracking with us all along, in October you get to take a week long cooking vacation!  Every three months we do this, so that we eat the stuff that has been in the freezer the longest and the meals stay fresh!

2. Get your Fall/Winter garden fully in.  At the moment we are only part way there.  So our goal in October is to finish getting the rest of our plants and seeds in the ground!  Perhaps you don’t live in a place where you can have an outdoor garden year ’round, but perhaps Winter is a good time for plants in the kitchen window or for setting up a small greenhouse!  Hmmmm…..possibilities!

October 7-13 is FIRE PREVENTION WEEK.  So, this month, do your family and home a favor.  Check the batteries on your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.  Check your fire extinguishers.  Is everything where it should be?  Is everything current?

Then while you’re at it, schedule a meeting with the whole family and discuss your fire plan.  Where are the best exits in case of a fire and where will you meet outside?  Do the kids know what to do?

On your mark, get set, GO!
