September Goals

September 5, 2012

School days, school days,

        Dear old golden rule days…

As most everyone buckles down for the inevitable back to school days, it’s time to plan out our September Goals.  It seems like we just started summer and yet here we are, the children bent over books with pencils in hand, the evenings changing from balmy to crisp, and the summer garden waning.  It’s time to think of autumn and how we can best plan for this new season and be prepared for any of “life’s little happenings.”

BABY STEPS:

1.  Continue doubling meals twice a week for the freezer.  (I can’t begin to tell you how simple and successful this has been for my family.  Without increasing my monthly food budget, I currently have 37 meals just waiting for me in the freezer!  I told Daja yesterday that we have to start praying for a larger freezer for me!  I’m quickly running out of room!)

2.  Start planning and planting the fall/winter garden.  Thankfully, here in Southern California it’s easy to grow food year round.  September is the right month to order and start planting beets, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, garlic, kale, lettuce, green onions, potatoes, radish, and spinach.  Having food right out of your own yard is such a blessing.  Let’s remember what God tells us in His word.

“Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.  (Hebrews 6:7)

BIG GIRL STEPS:

1.  Can enchilada sauce and anything else we can get our hands on!  Seriously, Daja and I have been bitten by the canning bug!  We just love it and we especially love seeing all those jars-of-goodness sitting on the shelves of our provision closets just waiting for us.

And lastly dear readers, have you ever felt this way?

Even with all my planning I still sometimes feel this way, and I know you have too!  Whether it’s because you’ve not started on your path to preparedness by joining us each month for Baby Step Goal #1, or maybe because the money is really tight and you just don’t know how to stretch your dollars any further.  This month, we’re going to be sharing our very best tips with you on how we keep our meals budget friendly.  If you’d like to share any of your own tips, send us an email at theprovisionroom@gmail.com.  If we like your tip, we might just include it in one of our posts, giving you credit of course!

Keep up the good fight!
