We Challenge You

June 5, 2012

Are you looking for an exciting and fun-filled plan to encourage and support you on your journey of eating well?  Then we challenge you to live 30 days fast food free!

For some of you this will be easy, for others we’ve just issued a challenge the size of Texas!  Believe me I know all the excuses.  I also know how difficult this will be for some families who have a lot of activities in the evenings and on weekends.  But let me (Kristina) encourage you!  I have two daughters that swim 5 days a week.  Their practices run from 3:30 to 7:00 every evening with a one hour break between.  Then we have weekend swim meets where they have to be at the pool by 7:00am and we aren’t done until 5:00, 6:00 or sometimes later both Saturday and Sunday!  It’s brutal.  But I have found ways to eat on the run without compromising my values.  You can too, with just a little extra planning!

We’ve built up some great resources to help you along the way and keep you encouraged.  During your 30 day challenge take some time to read these informative and light-hearted posts where we share valuable tips and fun ways to escape the drive thru.

The Challenge:  For 30 days pledge to eat intentionally – food that is good for the body, the soul, and the community.

Who:  Individuals, families, small groups, and congregations.  Just remember!  Taking this challenge as a group will provide a supportive community and environment that will help you stick to your resolutions!  There is strength in numbers!  (Download our 30 Day Fast Food Free Challenge pdf to share with your community.)

Why:  Fast food is expensive, in more ways than one!

  • In 1970, the USA spent 6 million dollars on fast food.  In 2006 the spending was 142 billion.  That’s $460.00 for every man, woman, and child in the USA.
  • Those who eat fast food two or more times per week experience an annual weight gain of 10 pounds more than those who eat fast food less than once a week.
  • The percentage of children aged 6-11 years in the United States who are obese increased from 7 percent in 1980 to nearly 20 percent in 2008.
  • The obese workforce costs American business an estimated $73.1 billion per year.
  • We live in an increasingly isolated society.  Eating quickly, in the car and alone contributes to a lack of  community.

I would love some tips on how to put buttons and banners on my blog, and how to link to this blog. Thank you! (Kathy)

You can easily link to our blog by copying and pasting the code for our buttons, available on our sidebar. There is one for the blog itself and one for this challenge in particular. Copy the code and then in whatever blog you have, add a widget and paste the code there. I hope that makes sense! Let us know if you need any help!
