To-Do List For Summer 2012

We are ready to have fun and make some memories!  Here are very serious and very important to-do list for the summer:

(Some of these are for the kids, some are for our husbands, some are just for us and some are for the whole family!)

1. Camp out in the backyard

2. Go to the beach

3. Eat lunch straight from the garden

4. Visit a park we’ve never been to

5. Make snow cones

6. Make ice cream

7. Make pie

8. Make strawberry rhubarb cake

9. Make rose petal jelly

10. Have a gin and tonic in the backyard while reading a book just for fun

11. Give the kids chocolate milk at breakfast

12. Spend an entire day in our pajamas watching old movies

13. Visit the Norton Simon Museum with our art teacher and have a picnic in the courtyard

14. Visit The Getty and have a picnic in the gardens…after seeing the Monets of course!

15. Visit The Arboretum and get lost in the bamboo forest

16. Swim as often as possible

17. Boogie board with Daddy

18. Ask Nana for her Peanut Butter and Jelly Funny Bread Recipe and make it for breakfast

19. Visit Papa and Nana

20. Spend lots of time with friends

21. Have a sleepover for the kids

22. Play baseball and soccer and basketball

23. Bake cupcakes

24. Have a bonfire in the backyard

25.  Roast marshmallows

26. Make popsicles from aqua de jamaica

27. Play outside all day and don’t come in until dark!

28. Fly kites at the beach

29. Origami

30. Have races with Belgee

31. Go on a family bike ride

32. Go on a hike and nature walk

33. Visit the urban chicken farm

34. Go wine tasting with friends

35. Visit the zoo

36. Go fishing and really catch something this time

37. Let the kids plan dinner

38. Go to the California Science Center

39. Take the Metro to China Town for dim sum

40. Concerts in the park!

41. Sleep in past 10, at least once!

42. Visit the Noah’s Ark exhibit at the Skirball Center

43. Watch the Fourth of July fireworks from the backyard

44. Have a shrimp boil, New England Style

45. Project a movie outside and watch it under the stars

46. Lay down on a picnic blanket and find shapes in the clouds (if the LA smog isn’t too bad!)

47. Read a book from breakfast until bedtime.

48. Build a fort in the living room with blankets and sleep under it as a family

49. Make root beer floats

50. Brew our own beer (On our husbands’ to do list!)

51. Play in the sprinklers (even the grown-ups!)

52. Make frozen yogurt

53. Safely land on Mars (Jordan’s project lands August 5th!)

54. Have dinner with nothing more than sweet corn on the cobb, tomatoes, bread, and a bottle of wine

55. Go cherry picking or visit any you-pick farm

56. Video chat with old friends on the other side of the country

57. Build a bird house

58. Go canoeing

59. Have a family sing-along

60. Take a nap in a hammock

61. Finish just one sewing project . . . any sewing project

62. Make sun tea

63. Make iced coffee

64. Have a clothing swap with girlfriends

65. Make pizzas on the grill

66. Visit the Central Coast Lavender Farm

67. Get up early and watch the sunrise

68. Watch the sunset over the ocean

69. Finish up a writing project in time for the new school year (We are writing some new curriculum!)

70. Have a good-bye blessing party for dear friends who are moving away

71. Look ahead to the Fall and think about what needs refreshing in our herbal medicine cabinet

72. Make homemade bug repellent

73. Go camping in Sequoia

74. Make homemade teething biscuits for the baby

75. Scavenger Hunt

76. Play croquet with the family

77. Play hopscotch

78. Jump rope

79. Play kickball with the family

80. Watch a meteor shower (in July!)

81. Look through the telescope at the moon

82. Make lemonade from the lemons in the backyard

83. Build a model rocket with Dad (Jordan)

84. Go antiquing

85. Explore a new town

86. Go for a Sunday drive with no particular destination

87. Eat from a food truck

88. Dance like nobody’s watching

89. Make chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches

90. Host a kids CHOPPED competition

91. Do sidewalk chalk art (even the grown-ups!)

92. Tie dye something

93. Give our daughters pedicures

94. Have a girls night out with our friends

95. Do the summer reading program at the library

96. Visit a new Farmer’s Market

97. Have a water balloon/water gun fight

98. Have a watermelon seed spitting contest

99. Go on a road trip to The Reformation of Food and the Family conference

100. Read fairy-tales to the children, sitting in the tree house or in the garden

    I was actually HOPING you guys would post one of these. Bella and I are brainstorming right now… and this is some great inspiration!! Yay for summer!!!

    this is so fun!!! I checked out Noah’s Ark and am sooo excited to go!
    Also, have you visited Underwood Family Farms? We have already made our strawberry jam with our bounty from them…. it’s our favorite you-pick farm! 🙂

    Whew! This is an ambitious list. But, I think you need to do #19 more than once!

    That was a long list! 😀 But your #26 reveals that you love hibiscus tea! 🙂 I’m a big lover of this tea, too. I’ve read that hibiscus tea benefits in many ways, I just haven’t discover yet.

    What a great list! Many memories will be made this summer! I’m proud to say that I accomplished #51 yesterday playing with a friend’s 2 year old. What a blast!
