Prayer for week of February 27 – Small Beginnings

February 27, 2012

Preparedness can seem very overwhelming at times.  If you look at any task list for disaster preparedness, it’s daunting.  It takes a lot of time, a lot of thought, and let’s face it, a lot of money.  It can be paralyzing.

That is why we are starting this with baby steps.  That is why we are saying, “Just do these few small things.”  Breaking it down into bite-sized pieces.  However, even that can seem insignificant.  Honestly, when I look at my freezer and cupboards I dearly want to seem them overflowing and bountiful.  After all, I know how much work I have already put into it.  And yet, my provisions still look so…..small.

On Saturday I sat in an “accomplishing your dreams” workshop at my church.  We dreamed, we planned, and we listened to the Lord.  I really felt the Lord say:  “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin…”  Zechariah 4:10

We cannot look at our efforts as meager.  We must realize that the Lord is blessing the work of our hands and will multiply our efforts.  The main thing is to start the work.  To be faithful.  This week let us ask the Lord to give us His eyes.  He doesn’t see things on the scale we do.  God’s math isn’t exactly like ours.  When we obey Him, He multiplies our efforts.  (That’s why one can put a thousand to flight and two can put ten thousand to flight! (Deuteronomy 32:310))  Let us pray for a new perspective and let us rejoice in the work God has laid before us!

Let us see our work as it really is: magnificent.  It may seem small, but it is mighty!

“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer; coneys are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags; locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.  Proverbs 30:24-28

Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.  Job 8:7
