Why Pantry 31

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.  Proverbs 31:25 NLT

The way I think of the noble Proverbs 31 woman may not be the way you have thought of her in the past.  I don’t just see her as beautiful and meek and placidly content as she sits in the corner and knits.

I see her as a fierce warrior woman whose  kids and husband stand in awe.

She can get a phone call at 4pm that her husband is bringing business associates home for dinner and she doesn’t freak out and start running around like a chicken with its head cut off.  Although she very well may give her husband an earful later.  She can learn of her neighbor who just got a startling medical diagnosis and be over there with chocolate chip zucchini bread and a listening ear in less than an hour.  She can follow the Holy Spirit’s leading to give a sizable donation to a missionary and not worry about her budget.  When a windstorm knocks out her power for four days she doesn’t have to resort to saltine crackers for dinner.

Why?

Because she is not afraid of the future.  Her pantry is prepared.  She’s prepared for the Big One and all the Small Ones.

Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  Proverbs 31:11

This section of the site, Pantry 31, is where we explore what is in our pantries and how they can be a little more ready than they are.  We’ll keep you updated with pictures of our freezers and cupboards and pantries.  Learn with us and laugh with (or at) us as we get ready to laugh at the future because we are ready.

“… she can laugh at the days to come.”  Proverbs 31:25 NIV

I have enough food in the pantry, but wow, this non-stressed, non-freaked out woman doesn’t even describe me. LOL Soon, though?

This is who I strive to be, starting with stocking (and using) my pantry better. I found you through Generation Cedar, and both of you got me thinking about my two favorite things in my pantry, meat TVPs (textured vegetable protein, they taste better than they sound & are great for stretching meats) and powdered basics (eggs, sour cream, milk, butter, shortening: easy to use, never-have-to-run-to-the-store-just-becuase-I’m-out, less waste since i only prepare what I need for a recipe, & often cheaper than fresh!). I’ve even found a particular brand I love, it’s called THRIVE, and the company that caries it is Shelf Reliance, they even offer a monthly, budgeted, shipment club where you pick your $ amount, the products you need, and a ship date, and it comes to your door!
